Save the article:
Animals, just like humans, need substances that enhance immunity. The domestic manufacturer took care of our little brothers and offered a special product - the immunomodulator Gamavit for cats .

The composition of the medication shows how effective the product is: vitamins, amino acids and microelements will not harm any cat. To understand whether it is worth treating your beloved purr with such a drug, you need to study its effect, instructions for use and side effects.

Composition and action

The main active ingredients of Gamavit are denatured emulsified placenta and sodium nucleinate. To enhance the therapeutic effect, the drug contains vitamins, minerals and amino acids that will help restore metabolic processes in the animal’s body and increase defenses to fight infection.

PDE (denatured emulsified placenta) is a natural preventive and stimulating drug developed specifically for veterinary use as a general tonic. It has preventive and therapeutic effects, helps strengthen the immune system. PDE has a positive effect on many body systems of domestic animals: genitourinary, digestive. The placenta stimulates the enzyme digestive system, restoring the balance of the natural microflora of the gastrointestinal tract.

Sodium nucleinate actively supports the functioning of the heart and blood vessels. It increases the body's nonspecific resistance and has an immunostimulating effect. The substance has a wide range of biological activity, stimulates the activity of the central nervous system and metabolic processes in the body, including intracellular metabolism and nucleic acid metabolism.

The drug contains all the amino acids, nucleic acids, vitamins, macro- and microelements, mono- and dipeptides necessary for the animal’s body. Among them:

GlycineA vital amino acid that participates in intracellular metabolic processes, activates cellular respiration and binds toxins;
ArginineAn important amino acid, the deficiency of which can lead to serious consequences for animal health. It is necessary for the production of ornithine, a substance that binds ammonia. The latter, accumulating in the blood, causes severe intoxication, and the animal dies in a matter of hours. Arginine is involved in protein synthesis and strengthens the immune system;
LysineNecessary for normal brain function, calcium absorption, and the production of antibodies that are involved in protecting the body during attacks by foreign agents. Without L-lysine, proteins cannot be absorbed in the pet’s body;
L-glutamic acidMaintains the health of the central nervous system, improves metabolism;
GlucoseA source of energy for the body, it stimulates the synthesis of enzymes and hormones, supports the immune system; vitamins of group B, A, C, D, E.

Kittens need vitamin A for proper growth and development, and pets, regardless of age, need it for cell renewal, maintaining visual acuity and immunity. B vitamins affect almost all vital processes of any organism. They are necessary for the normal functioning of the digestive, nervous, cardiovascular systems, and the development of muscle tissue. A lack of vitamins negatively affects a pet’s appearance and well-being:

  • A lack of vitamin B3 (nicotinic acid) in the body results in intestinal problems. It provokes frequent diarrhea, deterioration in coat quality, and skin problems;
  • With a deficiency of vitamin B6, cats lose hair in the head and abdomen, and damage to the central nervous system may appear. Lack of vitamin is one of the factors contributing to the formation of stones in the urinary tract and kidneys;
  • Vitamin B12 affects metabolic processes in the cat’s body and is involved in the synthesis of hemoglobin. With a lack of vitamin, blood counts worsen;
  • antioxidant – vitamin C – provides the body’s protective functions, improves the absorption of minerals;
  • Vitamin D promotes the absorption of phosphorus and calcium and is necessary for the growth of bones and teeth. Especially important for kittens and pregnant cats;
  • Vitamin E is also an antioxidant and contributes to the normal course of pregnancy in cats.

Minerals are no less important for a cat’s body than vitamins. Vital macroelements include calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium and others. Important microelements - iron, iodine, manganese, fluorine, etc.

Important!

Thanks to its natural composition, Gamavit is harmless to cats of any age, including small kittens.

The drug is sold in veterinary pharmacies, and since the manufacturer is domestic, the product is always available.

The price per bottle of the drug is:

  • for 6 ml 74-85 rubles;
  • for 10 ml 120-140 rubles;
  • for 100 ml 880-950 rubles.

The veterinarian will advise you on the need to choose the appropriate volume.

Dosage

The prepared injection solution can be administered to cats subcutaneously, intramuscularly or intravenously, including in the form of a dropper. If it is impossible to inject the medicine, it is allowed to administer it using a syringe without a needle.

The single dose and duration of treatment depend on the purpose of use of the drug. The prophylactic dose is 0.1 ml of solution per kilogram of animal body weight. The therapeutic dose is higher – 0.3-0.5 mg/kg.

The duration of the preventive course of injections is 2-4 weeks; if necessary, the veterinarian can increase its duration. To prevent anemia, hypovitaminosis, strengthen the immunity of elderly and weakened animals, as well as cats that have undergone surgery and severe infectious diseases, the drug is administered intramuscularly 1-3 times a week for 1-2 months.

When using Gamavit to neutralize stress factors, the medicine is administered in a prophylactic dose once before the event or 8, 6 and 4 days before it. Gamavit will have a calming effect on the animal during a long trip, a change of habitat, before vaccination, an exhibition, or a visit to the veterinarian.

Gamavit has a positive effect on the cat’s reproductive system, so it is used by breeders in nurseries to increase fertility. The medicine is administered in a volume of 0.025-0.05 ml per 1 kg of cat’s body weight. In order to facilitate childbirth and prevent complications in the female, the drug can be used 7 days before and during the birth process. In case of difficult childbirth, the medicine is administered once in a double dose.

Newborn kittens can also use Gamavit to prevent early mortality, as well as increase immunity and strengthen the defenses of the growing body. In addition, the drug promotes metabolic processes in the body and the absorption of micro- and macroelements and vitamins necessary for kittens. The dose of the solution is 0.1 ml/kg. The regimen involves administering the drug on the 1st, 3rd and 5th (or 7th) days of the kitten’s life.

Use of Gamavit for medicinal purposes:

  • for viral and bacterial infections, helminthiases - twice or thrice a day for 3-5 days;
  • in case of poisoning - injections into a vein or droppers are given as an emergency once in an increased (3-5-fold) dose;
  • in case of helminthic infestation - together with anthelmintics - twice: on the day of treatment and one day after it;
  • for gynecological pathologies in cats - 1 time per day for 5-7 days.

Instructions for use of Gamavit

The drug enters the cat’s body in one of three ways: intramuscular, intravenous or subcutaneous. The medication is injected under the withers or hind leg. It’s good if the procedure is entrusted to the hands of a specialist.

Mild and moderately severe cases of the disease allow subcutaneous administration of Gamavit. Accordingly, a severe case requires an intravenous method. To do this, you should get a dropper or catheter.

A veterinarian can calculate the correct dose of the drug: the age of the cat, the type of disease, and weight are important.

An intravenous injection is not at all easy to give to a person without medical skills, so it is better to trust a specialist with professional skills.

Gamavit is administered intravenously in case of poisoning in order to achieve rapid action of the drug.

The medicine is injected intramuscularly into the thigh or shoulder. Difficulties may arise if the cat reacts poorly to the syringe or is afraid of pain.

The subcutaneous method of administration is considered the simplest: the animal’s skin is pulled back at the withers and pierced with a needle. If you use insulin syringes, it will be easier for your cat to endure the pain from the injection.

For each injection, a new sterile syringe is needed: this is a necessary measure against infection of the pet.

Nursing babies

To maintain the vitality of newborn pets, stimulate the growth and development of kittens, it is recommended to use Gamavit Forte, starting from the first day of life. The medication has a beneficial effect on the nervous system of animals, ensures proper blood supply to vital organs, and helps the functioning of the digestive system. If the mother cat was exposed to infection during pregnancy, the use of an immunomodulator is vital for the offspring.

In most cases, Gamavit Forte helps even kittens (puppies) that show no signs of life. Recommended dosage is 0.1 – 0.3 ml. If the kitten moves and squeaks, you can offer the baby medicine as a drink.

Components

The drug Gamavit for cats consists of:

  • extracts from the placenta, stimulating biogenic processes;
  • sodium nucleinate, which improves immunity, increases resistance to stress, and increases endurance;
  • vitamins of group E, which promote the growth of kittens;
  • folic acid;
  • glycine, arginine and alanine.

All components of the medicine are natural and cannot harm the health of the animal.

What it is?

The manufacturer reports that Gamavit is a unique immunomodulatory agent based on placental emulsion, sodium salts, vitamins and microelements. Here is a more accurate composition of the medicine, from which we can conclude that it is highly effective:

  • Ascorbic acid, vitamin E, D, folic acid, almost all B vitamins.
  • Alanine, arginine, glutamine, glycine, and more than a dozen valuable amino acids.
  • A balanced set of microelements characteristic of the body of healthy animals.

What can this composition be used for? Oh, its scope of application is extremely wide. Veterinarians believe that it is effective for:

  • Viral diseases.
  • When restoring the body after severe injuries.
  • When treating a dog for helminthiases, to neutralize the negative effects of parasitic worm toxins on the body.
  • During the recovery of lambing cats after difficult births. By the way, can Gamavit be used for pregnant cats?

The last question is quite difficult. On the one hand, the manufacturer himself writes about the admissibility of this. On the other hand, immunologists warn about the non-zero probability of developing autoimmune diseases in this case. We would recommend giving this drug orally before breeding to both breeders. The medicine, enriched with vitamins and microelements, clearly will not harm animals at such a crucial time.

Increased performance of the muscular system is reported. This is important for those cats who regularly participate in exhibitions and need to look as good as possible. They spend a lot of energy because they are often in a state of chronic stress. For the same reason, the medicine “Gamavit” for cats is indicated for nursing severely weakened cats, as well as in cases of cachexia and dystrophy.

Security measures

The use of the drug Gamavit requires compliance with standard safety measures and hygienic rules adopted for contact with medicinal substances. If the product accidentally gets on the skin or inside the eye, you should immediately rinse the surface with plenty of clean running water. People with an increased allergic response to the components of the drug are advised to avoid direct contact with this substance. If allergy symptoms appear, you should immediately consult a doctor, taking with you the instructions for the drug.

Pharmacology

Gamavit belongs to the combined immunomodulatory drugs. The use of the drug stimulates natural resistance, increases the bactericidal activity of blood serum, the resistance of animals to stress and excessive loads, has an immunomodulatory effect, increases the safety and weight gain of young animals. In terms of the degree of impact on the body, Gamavit is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007). In recommended doses and concentrations it has no local irritating, allergenic, embryotoxic, teratogenic or carcinogenic effects.

Important Additions

I would like to dwell on exactly how Gamavit should be stored. Vials with the drug should be refrigerated, storage temperature is from 4 to 6 degrees Celsius. Freezing the medicine is strictly prohibited! After freezing and subsequent thawing, the composition loses almost all its positive properties and can no longer be used for therapeutic or prophylactic purposes. The medicine is never used in cases of:

  • When its solution in the bottle becomes cloudy and sharply changes its normal color (normally the medicine has a red tint).
  • There is sediment or some flocculent inclusions in the thickness of the preparation itself.
  • In case the medicine is expired.

I would like to dwell separately on the treatment of viral diseases. So, in severe cases, we would recommend using not a simple variety, but “Gamavit-Forte”. What are the differences between these two drugs? The fact is that Forte contains not only all the standard components that we talked about above, but also interferon. The latter substance is a powerful antiviral agent that helps with many infectious diseases of viral etiology.

In addition, drinking Gamavit (or its parenteral administration) should never be the only treatment (with the exception of prevention). This medicine works well as an adjunct to specific therapy, but it is unrealistic to cure, for example, bronchitis. If “Gamavit” is not available, you can use its analogues: “Vitam”, “Kantaren” and others like them.

PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

According to the instructions for use, gamavit contains a complex of biologically active substances

, thanks to which it optimizes metabolic processes in the cat’s body (in particular, protein, vitamin and mineral).

Gamavit in cats:

  • is a source of metabolic substrates
  • is a biogenic stimulant
  • helps accelerate growth in kittens
  • reduces postnatal mortality
  • resistance of cats to increased loads and stress
  • exhibits an adaptogenic effect
  • increases muscle performance
  • increases the viability of offspring
  • increases bactericidal activity of blood serum
  • has an immunomodulatory effect
  • general biotonic effect
  • normalizes the blood formula

Contraindications

Using Gamavit for pets does not cause any harm. It is important that the dosage of the drug is observed. Rarely, cat owners may encounter a situation where their pet is allergic to components. In this case, you should stop taking it immediately. The veterinarian can replace the medication with an analogue.

Cats suffering from vitamin deficiency, who have suffered a serious illness or surgery, cannot take care of themselves and regain their strength. Gamavit for cats will be a real salvation in such cases. The balanced composition of the drug will quickly put the animal on its feet.

Reviews about vitamins

Owners

Natalya M., Moscow:

“The cat’s birth was difficult, so after examination the doctor prescribed Gamavit. Injections were given intramuscularly. Already on the second day the animal stood up, and although with difficulty, it reached the bowl of food. It took about 2 weeks for the cat to fully recover. The kittens were also born weakened and were given the drug in a smaller dose.

In general, I am satisfied with the effect obtained from the treatment. We managed to completely save the newborn kittens and help their mother.”

Svetla K., Smolensk:

“The kitten had a very festering wound that did not heal for a long time. Along with the main treatment, Gamavit tablets were additionally prescribed. There were no difficulties taking the drug. It was placed directly on the root of the tongue and the mouth was closed. “No side effects were observed during the treatment.”
