Cat food Leonardo Adult Cat Maxi Poultry Grain Free

Analysis of the composition

We evaluate the formulation of Leonardo food using the example of dry food for kittens:

Leonardo food composition

The manufacturer put dehydrated poultry meat, mainly chicken, in first place. The second position is occupied by poultry fat. It is likely that the production of cat food is tied to a meat processing plant. Rice and corn were used as a source of starch that breaks down slowly in the intestines. The by-product of cheese processing contains proteins, lactic acid bacteria, and low molecular weight compounds. The component stimulates bone development, improves immunity, and has prebiotic as well as antioxidant properties.

Liver hydrolysate gives the food a taste that is attractive to cats.

Rye malt contains enzymes, vitamins, and dietary fiber. Krill (oceanic zooplankton) are a valuable source of essential omega-3 fatty acids.

Egg powder contains proteins, as well as lecithin, which is necessary for the functioning of the nervous system. Herring flour has the best amino acid composition of proteins among analogues.

Carob pods (Constantinopolitan beans) contain pectin, gum, and lignin. Chicory root is inulin. Herbal remedies are used as prebiotics to feed beneficial bacteria in the colon.

Flaxseed secretes mucus, which protects the walls of the alimentary tract from aggressive substances formed during the digestion process. Sodium chloride was added to optimize electrolyte balance.

Thanks to microadditives, the kittens' needs for minerals, amino acids and vitamins were satisfied.

The feed mixture contains proteins, fats, fiber in the amount of 34; 22; 1.5%. Despite the low percentage of meat and fish components, the nutrition corresponds to the super premium class due to the high quality of auxiliary additives.

Customer Reviews

Nadezhda writes:

Our cat recently turned one year old and it’s time to switch to adult food. Before this, I had been eating Leonardo for kittens for two months, so the formula for adults was taken from the same brand. And so, we chose Leonardo Adult Complete 32/16, a 400 g pack costs 323 rubles. There are also packaging sizes of 2, 7.5 and 17 kilograms. For those who don’t know, this food belongs to the super premium class and is manufactured in Germany.

The packaging contains information in Russian and several other languages, which means the food is sold not only in our country. Its composition is decent, without harmful additives, only with natural ingredients. The packaging states that it contains 85% animal protein and 15% plant protein. It is also noted that all ingredients are of high quality and have undergone strict testing under German law.

The food itself is made in the form of small bagels, with a smell characteristic of cat food. The cat eats it with pleasure, just like the one for kittens. Overall, I think this food is excellent, so I recommend you try it.

Inna writes:

Hi all. I bought canned food for my cat at the 4 Paws store and took a jar of Leonardo, Bozita, Mealfeel and Carny to try. In this review I will write about Leonardo, since it was the first to go into use) The price of a jar weighing 190 grams is almost 130 rubles.

After opening, I discovered the following: the jar was filled to the very top, and the pate itself looked quite appetizing. The German manufacturer claims that it contains 65% meat and offal, and the appearance of the pate seems to be true.

The cat ate this pate with great pleasure) The price is not too high, the quality is good, the cat likes it - I recommend Leonardo canned food.

Yana writes:

My cat is already 7 years old, neutered, lives in an apartment, doesn’t run around much. In such conditions, excess weight is gained every once in a while, so I try to regulate it by choosing the optimal diet. I recently tried the German food Leonardo, in which I was attracted by the design of the packaging.

The composition is average, for this money you can find better, but for the promotion the price is normal. Ring-shaped granules, about a centimeter in diameter. The smell is not strong. The food is not solid, the cat chews it easily and eats it very appetizingly. While I ate one package of 2 kg, no problems were found.

Canned food Leonardo

Kinds

There are 5 flavor variations in total. According to the manufacturer, the food does not contain grain and is made in accordance with the physiology of cats - from animal products.

  1. Kitten – for kittens.
  2. Pure Poultry – with poultry.
  3. Rich in liver - with liver.
  4. Rich in ocean fish - with ocean fish.
  5. Rich in rabbit - with a rabbit.

Compound

The composition for analysis was taken from the official website in English and translated verbatim. Canned food does not contain grains, soy, gluten, artificial flavors or preservatives.

  • Kitten : meat and animal by-products (total 65%, of which poultry 40%, beef 25%, meat broth 29.5%), eggs and egg products (whole egg 4%), minerals 1%, oils and fats (butter salmon 0.5%).
  • Pure Poultry : meat and animal by-products (65% poultry, 34% poultry broth), minerals 1%.
  • Rich in liver : meat and animal by-products (65%, of which 25% liver and meat broth 34%), minerals 1%.
  • Rich in ocean fish : meat and animal by-products (40% and meat broth 34%), fish and fish by-products (25% ocean fish), minerals 1%.
  • Rich in rabbit : meat and animal by-products (65%, of which 25% rabbit and meat broth 34%), minerals 1%.

Unfortunately, most of the ingredients are not specific.

  • Only beef does not raise any questions, since in this case we are talking specifically about muscle tissue, and with a rabbit, in principle, everything is clear - the whole carcass is used in the feed, without giblets, but possibly with skin, cartilage and bones.
  • A whole egg is also a fairly high-quality product.
  • Poultry, ocean fish - these names cover a certain mixture of raw carcasses and individual parts, without signs of decomposition, without offal, heads, paws, scales, fins. However, the raw materials of this component may vary from batch to batch, and it is impossible to reliably determine its quality and nutritional value.
  • Meat broth and liver - it is unknown from what raw materials the broth was obtained, and the animal origin of the liver is not indicated, it can be either beef or chicken, or something else. Meat broth may be a good source of moisture and a natural flavor that increases the attractiveness of food, but it cannot be considered a complete source of animal protein.
  • The amount of salmon oil listed in kitten food is very small and is unlikely to provide any real health benefits to your cat.

Guaranteed Analysis

  • Protein: 10-10.5%.
  • Fat: 5-5.5%.
  • Ash: 2%.
  • Fiber: 0.3%.
  • Moisture: 79-80%.

The calcium-phosphorus ratio is not indicated on the official website. The food contains taurine and other minerals.

Conclusion

Leonardo's canned food evokes mixed feelings - on the one hand, I am glad that the food really does not contain any grains, no no-name gelling agents, flavorings, or preservatives, and its guaranteed analysis generally corresponds to a complete food product. On the other hand, the composition itself does not inspire confidence, since the overwhelming amount of true raw materials is unknown.

Of course, Leonardo’s canned food is better than any economy or premium food in terms of composition, and the average price of 110 rubles per 200 gram can is quite reasonable, but it is better to pay attention to canned food with a more detailed composition.

Maybe Leonardo's spiders will please us?
