Among kitten foods you can find many different products - dry and wet food of various formats and compositions. The Brit brand is not lagging behind - this company’s assortment includes several diets for kittens under the age of 1 year, including dry food called Brit Premium Kitten - Delicate Chicken with Salmon Gravy. We want to analyze its composition, highlight the pros and cons and give a final description.
First of all, we note that this is an extremely rare case when the name of a dry food contains a mention of sauce. Typically, flavoring additives in dry diets are not included in the name of the product.
On the front side of the packaging of this food there are several marks, for example, “Tasty” - tasty, “Healthy” - healthy, “Irresistable” - impossible to resist. All this rather resembles advertising statements. A review of the Brit Premium Kitten components will show how fair it is to at least mention usefulness. You can limit yourself to our conclusion or read the description and evaluation of all components of Brit Premium food yourself by clicking on their name in the list.
Manufacturer
First, let's talk about the manufacturer, which is the production organization VAFO Praha sro, located in the town of Rudna in the Czech Republic. In addition to cat food, it specializes in selling food for dogs, rodents and ferrets.
It was founded in 1994 and gradually transformed from a private family company into a powerful production workshop, which employs several hundred employees. Products are exported to 70 countries. The dry food production plant was built in the Czech Republic, and wet products are manufactured in Thailand.
The manufacturer refused to test on laboratory animals, using special analyzers instead. The products comply with all necessary requirements - ISO 9001 and HACCP.
Range
The Brit Premium line of dry food includes the following types:
Brit Premium Kitten. Food for small animals (up to 1 year). The composition is identical to food for adult cats, but with slightly more vitamins.
Brit Premium Adult chicken. Complete option for adults (over one year old) with tender chicken and delicious chicken liver sauce. Yucca extract removes the pungent odor of excrement, and chicken protein is easily digestible.
Brit Premium Sterilized. Option for cats who have undergone sterilization or castration. Light but nutritious food.
Packaged in packs of 0.3, 0.8, 1.5 and 8 kg.
Wet food is:
- Chicken breast & cheese (main components - cheese and chicken breast);
- Tuna & salmon (with tuna and salmon);
- Kitten chicken (with chicken meat for kids);
- Tuna, carrot & pea (with chicken fillet).
Jar volume - 0.07 kg.
How much chicken - so much rice
The first component has an unusual spelling on the label. It looks like this: “Chicken 40% (dried chicken 22%, chicken meal 18%).” It turns out that the word “chicken” here is not a separate ingredient, but simply a way to combine two of its derivatives.
This move allows the manufacturer to bring this mix to the first place in the composition list. Since the percentage dosage of rice and other key ingredients in the Brit Premium Kitten - Chicken in Salmon Sauce food is not indicated, it can be assumed that there is almost the same amount of grain as the chicken mixture, that is, almost 40%. It ranks #2 on the ingredient list.
Compound
The composition of Brit Premium cat food is as follows:
- meat and offal (including meat flour);
- fish and fish products (salmon, fish oil, tuna);
- Brewer's yeast;
- cheese;
- fructooligosaccharides and mannanoligosaccharides (prebiotics);
- cereals and vegetables (corn, beet pulp, rice);
- extracts and dried herbs and fruits (turmeric, citrus, cloves, rosemary, dandelion, Yucca Schidigera);
- minerals and vitamins.
Other components of the Brit Premium Kitten base
Following rice, in third place, chicken fat preserved with tocopherols is listed - this is a completely worthy source of fatty acids. By the way, outside the top five there is also fish oil from salmon, although it obviously contains less, only 1%.
But then we see another cereal - corn, it is listed as component No. 4. In our opinion, cats, as obligate carnivores, need to consume animal protein, that is, high-quality fresh (or raw) meat and fish, or at least dried meat ingredients, but certainly not large volumes of grain.
The top five is closed by brewer's yeast, a source of B vitamins and a certain proportion of prebiotics (mannan-oligosaccharides). By the way, the manufacturer did not skimp on prebiotics to normalize the intestinal microflora - in addition to yeast, there are also isolated MOS and FOS (mannan- and fructo-oligosaccharides), and even their proportions in the composition are quite clearly indicated. This is a good indicator.
Advantages and disadvantages
- The BRIT Premium line of food is affordable.
- The assortment is pleasing to the eye: you can choose a formula for cats of different ages, both older and younger.
- There is not only dry food, but also wet food.
- Natural ingredients are used (rosemary, mixture of tocopherols).
- A lot of canned meat: up to 82% (and there are many types of meat).
- Food is sold not only in pet stores, but also in many universal hypermarkets operating in the Russian Federation.
- The sauce used is unknown.
- Some formulas contain corn, a filler that is only beneficial for humans. For cats, it is simply harmful: due to its low amino acid composition, it causes allergies, and due to excess carbohydrates, it causes obesity.
- The phrase “meat meal” may hide processed parts of the carcass that do not provide any practical benefit to animals. For example, feathers, beaks, parts of limbs. In holistic feeds, judging by the high price, sirloin parts are used, but in relatively inexpensive feeds this is hardly possible.
- In wet versions, the indication of offal - unspecified, not listed point by point - raises questions.
- Brewer's yeast added to some formulas may cause an allergic reaction.
- Added dyes and flavors to canned food.

My cats said “ugh” about Brit. We tried a little, and then went on a hunger strike. I had to throw away the rest. Before this, they were accustomed to chicken soup, but in the absence of it, they hamstered any dry food. Although the composition of Brit is nothing - chicken, rice, a minimal set of vitamins. Without frills and variety, but also without inedible substances.

Flaws:
The cat did not eat it, the smell was unpleasant, the allergy did not go away.
We have a sterilized British male, he is 2 years old. His first dry food was Royal Canin. The food did not cause any complaints, but the cat’s hair was shedding a lot. We changed the food to Purina Pro Plan for sterilized ones. After about a year of feeding Purina, the cat suddenly began to itch very much. It turned out that he was allergic to the food. We read that an allergy can begin, for example, to corn, which is part of Purina. We bought Brit Kare for sterilized ones. There was no corn in the composition, but the cat still did not stop itching. In addition, he practically stopped eating Brit! He reluctantly eats a few pellets at a time and leaves the bowl hungry. I didn’t like the smell of Brit either, it was very strong even compared to Purina. And the smell from the tray became stronger. By the way, my mother’s cat, who was also given Brit once, did not eat it. At all... In general, I didn’t like Brit.
General impression:
The cat didn't eat it

inedible, the cats told me
I have 5 cats and female cats, from one and a half to 15 years old. You have to approach the issue of feeding your small herd both differentiated and on a budget. I recently decided to treat them to a food called Brit. I chose the chicken and rice mixture. You won’t believe it: all my mustachios and stripes, together, with indescribably contemptuous faces, turned away from the bowls and stared at me indignantly: what did you buy?! I had to go to the pet store again. When I offered Brit to semi-wild yard cats, their reaction was the same. Gentlemen producers! What do you make this food from?
General impression:
According to my cats, it is of little use for food.

The veterinarian told us that the cat needs to gain weight, otherwise he is rather thin. I liked the composition of Brit Lily food, read the reviews, and decided to order a small pack to try. The cat reacted to it in the form of unformed stool, and this continued while he ate this food. A few days later I returned to the old feeding option, and everything returned to normal the very next day. I think this kind of food just doesn't suit him.

It’s cheap and the composition is good, I thought, and ran to feed my little paw Sonyashka (this is affectionate, but in general she is Sonata). The cat was healthy and felt great, did not shed, about 7 months old. I don’t know exactly, we brought her from the village as a kitten, cured her of infection, vaccinated her, dewormed her, got rid of fleas and sterilized her.
The food smells strongly of fish, such an unpleasant smell, the composition seems to be not bad for such a price. The granules are small, elongated in shape.
The bag has a zip fastener, but it is out of order, so it’s inconvenient to use now. It does not cause addiction in a cat like, for example, Purina One. And everything would be fine if we didn’t experience an unexpected side effect.
Before this I was given Purina One and Monge, which was tolerated well. Further - those who are squeamish, please do not read. The cat eats it and everything seems to be fine, but after a few minutes she begins to vomit it all up. It's not a pleasant sight. And so every time. And if she didn’t have time to remove it right away, she ate it. Ugh! Perhaps there was something with the composition, perhaps it was due to its small size, she swallowed some part and therefore her stomach could not cope, perhaps it swelled too much and quickly. I don’t know, but I won’t buy this food for my lapula anymore. And she went to the tray well.

My British daughter categorically did not like it, although before that she had eaten almost any food that was not cheap. I was practically starving for two days and had to change it urgently.

Details
Before switching to this food, I fed cats dry food from the same manufacturer, only for castrated cats, I already wrote a review about it here. Since the cats on it were kind of skinny, I decided to try to switch them to food with a different composition.
We switched to it without any digestive problems. Both cats ate it without any problems, but at the same time, I wouldn’t say that they were completely delighted with it. Premium food, the composition is generally good for its price. At the moment, I cannot afford to buy expensive and high-quality brands, so I have to choose the most acceptable options that I can afford.
The food does not have a strong odor compared to other foods, and does not feel very greasy to the touch. Feed consumption is approximately 60-70 grams per average cat.
What constantly irritated me was that the food always left small crumbs at the bottom of the bowl, which were never eaten; I had to constantly add fresh food, otherwise the cats would walk around me with hungry eyes. As a result, from a pack of 2 kg, there was always about 300 grams of this crumb left, which was already eaten up by the yard cats.
There is no tear line on the packaging, which is not very convenient, you need to use scissors, there is no cutting line as such.
While the food cost about 700 rubles for 2 kg, I bought it, but after it rose in price to 850 rubles, I decided to look for an alternative.
The biggest disadvantage is that after some time (a couple of months) after switching to this food, the cats began to vomit in the morning and the longer they fed it, the more often they vomited, every 3-4 days. We changed the food and everything returned to normal. My mother-in-law had a terrible story with this food, the cat also began to feel sick after a while, was the food really not suitable for three cats at once? Makes me think that it is not of very high quality...
I do not advise you to buy it!
