Types of veterinary passports
A veterinary passport is a registration certificate for a pet, which contains the history of vaccinations, the type of animal, and information about the owner.
It happens:
- domestic model, valid where the owner and the pet live;
- an international standard (or an international veterinary vaccination certificate), which allows you to import an animal into another country, and the entries here are in both your native and English languages;
- universal pattern, suitable for all types of pets, such as cats, dogs, ferrets.
In document forms from different manufacturers, differences in appearance and number of pages are acceptable.
Microchipping a cat
A good method that will prove that the cat is yours and no one else’s is microchipping. To do this, an electronic chip or simply a carrier is sewn under your pet’s skin. However, this technique is mainly used by owners of purebred animal species. This is a kind of electronic passport, which can be used to restore all data if suddenly the paper form is lost or something happens to it.
Mostly owners of purebred animal species resort to microchipping.
But keep in mind that chipping itself is an expensive pleasure and not everyone can afford it. Typically, the cost of such a procedure ranges from 600 to 1500 rubles.
Why do you need a veterinary passport?
It is required for:
- reminders about the timing of the next vaccination;
- traveling around Russia or to other countries (according to an international document, the veterinary government service issues a certificate for traveling abroad);
- overexposure of a pet in a hotel for animals (health and vaccination records indicate that it can safely live next to neighboring guests).
Veterinary passport of the animal
The main and most important document in the life of any pet is a veterinary passport. An animal passport is a veterinary document that allows you to transport a pet throughout the country and abroad. It is also necessary for the animal to participate in various exhibitions and shows.
What information does an animal’s veterinary passport contain and where can it be obtained?
The veterinary document includes complete information about the animal and its owner. At the same time, the passport is also a reminder for the owner about the period during which the next vaccination will be carried out.
What information is included in the international veterinary passport of an animal:
- periods of treatment against various parasites;
- rabies vaccinations;
- vaccination records;
- injections performed;
- reproductive information;
- notes on deworming;
- detailed information about chipping with the presence of an identification sticker, which stores all the data about the implanted chip.
The document is first issued for a pet at an early age, during its first visit to licensed veterinary hospitals. The doctor enters complete data about the animal into the veterinary passport of the cat or dog: its name, date of birth, breed type and color.
Additionally, the column for special signs is filled in, and a report is generated on the preventive studies and procedures performed. Not without attention is the column with information about the owner of the animal, where the doctor will definitely enter your full name, residential address and contact phone number.
The columns specifically designated to indicate annual vaccinations will be filled out in as much detail as possible. The veterinarian indicates the date of the procedure and the name of the drug used. Next, you should place a special sticker next to the name of the medicine and certify it with the seal of the organization. Finally, the doctor signs to confirm the result of the animal’s vaccination.
A veterinary document can be purchased at a pet store, a specialized online resource, or at an animal clinic. The cost of a passport is approximately 100 rubles.
What is needed to obtain a passport?
When you contact the clinic to apply for a passport for your pet, you need to have a clear photograph of your pet with you. It is important that the animal is over one year old at the time the photo is taken.
It happens that veterinary passports are filled out incorrectly, and therefore are subsequently considered invalid. Therefore, be careful when filling out this important document!
If the animal’s passport does not contain medication stickers, vaccination dates are not indicated, the signature of the attending physician and the clinic’s wet seal are missing, then, unfortunately, such a document will not have any force when presented to the relevant structures.
Carefully study the passport when you receive it at the veterinary clinic - an error not corrected in time can later play a cruel joke when trying to transport the animal.
Based on a well-executed animal passport, it becomes possible to obtain an F-1 certificate from the veterinary service. This certificate will also be required to transport your pet by air, sea or land.
You can receive an F-1 certificate no earlier than three days before departure. It is worth noting that legal issuance of certificates can only be carried out by government agencies that have the appropriate accreditation and license to provide services.
What to do if you lose your veterinary passport?
If for any reason you managed to lose your veterinary document, then there is always the possibility of restoring it. To do this, you must contact the clinic, providing accurate information about the animal’s last vaccination and the location of this procedure.
By looking up the archive of a veterinary hospital, you can find out the full history of visits, since all visits are duplicated in special journals. This measure allows you to monitor patient requests and store important information for a long period.
In addition, taking into account the requirements of modern legislation in the field of veterinary medicine, all animal clinics are required to submit quarterly reports on veterinary activities to the State Veterinary Supervision Authority. These reports are stored for 10 years from the date of registration.
It is good if the pet was microchipped in advance, since the chip stores detailed information about the tailed patient, which will make it possible to restore a lost document much faster.
When applying for an international veterinary passport and accompanying certificates for your pet, carefully study the issued documents. Don’t be lazy once again to read the correct spelling of the specified data, because in the usual bustle it is so easy to miss small but very important details.
Exciting travels and properly executed documents for you and your pets!
