Baldassard Monge is the founder of the Italian company Monge & CSpa , which produces balanced pet food. The year of foundation is considered to be 1963, in the same year the company began to receive its first orders from large nurseries in Italy. Recognition was not long in coming, and the breeders recognized that Mogne food was of the highest level.
Until 2022, Baldassard Monge's company is one of the largest feed manufacturers in the world. The plant is located in Monasterolo di Savigliano, in Italy, in an area that is considered a standard of environmental purity. As befits large factories, Monge meets all EU requirements and standards and is equipped with the latest specialized equipment.
The production process deserves special attention. Monge is meticulous in everything from the choice of raw materials to the design and practicality of packaging. In 2013, the company opened its first advanced plant for the production of dry and wet pet food.
A special technology for preparation was developed - the highest quality raw materials were converted into microscopically small particles by grinding.
The body of domestic animals is different from that of humans, the process of assimilation of food takes longer and, no matter how strange it may sound, animals are more capricious than us. Our stomach can digest almost anything.
According to experts, this makes the feed homogeneous and digestible. Before feed, the Monge family was breeding chickens to supply to elite restaurants, so there were no problems with raw materials. By the way, the raw material is poultry meat that was raised on the farm.
Hormones or antibiotics are never used to increase size, only natural food, which is undoubtedly a plus.
The range of dog food is simply amazing . Monge offers several lines. You can choose for yourself based on the breed, age and characteristics of your pet. The company's feed is divided into 3 types:

The line includes the following foods:
- For removing fur.
- For cats living indoors.
- For sterilized cats.
- For the prevention of urolithiasis.
- For cats with sensitive digestion.
The first two are no different in composition from the previous line, they have the same advantages and disadvantages, I will not dwell on them.
In food for sterilized pets, wheat comes in second place, followed by corn gluten meal and oats. It is not entirely clear why a sterile cat needs so many grains, especially considering that plant foods alkalize the urine.
Food for the prevention of urolithiasis was generally disappointing. Rice comes first, followed by corn gluten meal, and oats in sixth place. Chicken is even less - 18% dehydrated and 5% fresh.
It is strange that in this food, calcium and phosphorus are added equally (0.80%), although it is known that there should always be a little more calcium. I would like to ask the manufacturer: what exactly is prevention, given that the food consists of 80% grain?
The food for sensitive digestion was also not impressive. In the first place is corn, in third is corn gluten, and between them is squeezed chicken meat, of which at least 10% is fresh. The percentage of chicken meat in the feed is not known. Next comes chicken oil - regular chicken fat, but it is unknown what preservative was used. In tenth place in the composition is a dry whole egg, and in 11th and 12th place are flour and salmon oil.
Another carbohydrate component is brown rice. Soybean husks, insoluble pea fibers, and beet pulp were added as sources of fiber.
It has a very carbohydrate composition, and its healing effect on the animal’s sensitive digestive system is questionable.
Guaranteed Analysis
- Protein: 27% (food for sensitive digestion) – 35% (food for sterilized animals).
- Fats: 10% – 16%.
- Fiber: 2.5% – 7% (food for sterilized animals, apparently so that castrati eat less and poop more, why else do you need so much fiber?).

Bottom line
This line is much worse in quality than the previous one, there are a lot of carbohydrate components in the feed, and there are questions about the therapeutic and prophylactic effect. We do not recommend!
Monge feed composition
Here's how Monge food differs from the rest. Superficial overview of the composition:
- Meat is the most important and basic ingredient. The main source of protein. Adding to the taste appeal is the fact that the meat is not frozen and only fresh meat is used that has passed several stages of testing.
- X.O.S. _ _ _ – stabilize intestinal microflora, strengthen the immune system, prevent gas formation.
- Artichoke extract, echinacea, oregano, garlic are hepatoprotectors. Biologically active substances, antioxidants and vitamins contained in feed stimulate digestion, metabolism, liver and pancreatic function. In general, they strengthen the body.
- Chondroitin , glucosamine, phosphorus - strengthen joints and the skeletal system.
- L-kartinin – weight control and muscle building of the dog.
- Omega-3, Omega-6 – give shine to the coat and a healthy appearance to the skin.
Dietary meat, which is easily digestible, ensures good digestion of food and absorption of the beneficial properties of food. Hypoallergenic protein sources – help with negative reactions to food.
Feed composition can be divided into two categories:
- To satisfy hunger;
- To obtain nutrients and nutrients.
The picture shows that the first and main component is meat. I am very pleased that even the % (27%) of the content in the package is indicated. Roughly speaking, 1/5 of the pack is meat. Moreover, it is fresh and of high quality, as the manufacturer himself assures. Further, rice and corn (also 27%) are added for mass, but despite this, they provide a noticeable increase in energy, which cannot be a minus.
The rest of the ingredients can be classified as “getting nutrients.” These include: Vitamin C, vitamin E, L-cartinine, mineral salts, protein (30%), fat (18%), crude ash (7%), cheese fiber (2%), calcium (1.5%) and phosphorus (1.2%)

There are only three options within the line - for kittens, for adult cats and for seniors.
Meat
Meat ingredients are at the top of the list, which makes us happy. But the manufacturer designated them as “chicken”, and explained in parentheses that the concept includes 26% (and 22% in food for the elderly) dehydrated chicken and 10% fresh. However, the ingredient does not contain the word “meat”. We conclude that the chicken in the feed is whole, with bones, skin and everything else.
In addition, this example well illustrates the cunning of marketers, because if the ingredients were indicated separately, then fresh chicken would be much lower in the composition, but they make up 36% - tricky!
Next in the food, in fourth place, is hydrolyzed animal protein. It is well absorbed and improves the taste and aroma of the feed, but it is obtained through chemical processing from unknown raw materials - it can be classified as low-quality ingredients.
Next to it is powdered egg with a high content of animal protein. Here the Russian translators were a little modest, since in English the name of the component sounds like whole egg powder - powder from a whole egg, which means it really contains the same nutrients as a raw egg.
And the last meat ingredient is fish. The manufacturer explained in parentheses that this is dehydrated salmon. It’s a little unclear why not write this right away. The salmon listed whole means it was dried and ground whole.
Fats
The fat content is listed as "animal fat" (99.6% chicken fat preserved with natural antioxidants). The immediate question is: where did the 0.4% go? Is it some other fat, or is this amount taken up by natural antioxidants? A little unclear, but overall a trustworthy ingredient. Another source of fat is fish oil, represented by salmon oil.
Plant component
The second place in the composition is occupied by rice. If you think about it and divide the chicken from first place into its components - who knows, maybe rice would come first. In any case, it is obvious that rice is one of the main components, and its share is very large, which is not good, because the predator clearly does not need such an amount of grain.
Moreover, the food contains corn in two components: corn gluten meal and simply plain corn. In the first case, it is waste from plant production, which has a bad effect on cats’ digestion and is a potential allergen. Well, again, one component is divided into two in order to artificially raise the meat component in composition closer to the top of the list.
The food is rich in fiber. Its sources are dry beet pulp and insoluble pea fibers. The ingredients are not dangerous, they serve as ballast and fill the intestines, creating a feeling of fullness. Perhaps this is actually a good idea for low-active cats.
Supplements
Prebiotics are added to the feed in the form of two types of yeast - brewer's and dehydrogenated, as well as isolated prebiotics - xylooligosaccharides. In addition, there is Yucca Schidigera, rose hips, and a pineapple stem was also added to the food for the elderly.
A natural mixture of tocopherols and rosemary extract are indicated as technological additives, which means that no chemical preservatives were used. A definite plus.
